Top Podcasts for Lawyers

legal research toolsFor busy lawyers, podcasts are a great way to stay on top of the latest legal news and updates. They’re increasing in popularity with lawyers because they offer a convenient way to stay up to date while on the go, whether you listen during your commute, on your lunch break, or while waiting for a case to be called in court.

Podcasts for lawyers cover a wide range of topics. So no matter what your interest, you’ll be sure to find a podcast that’s right up your alley. Whether you’re looking to learn about changes in the law, tips to run your law firm more effectively, legal technology advice, or more, there’s undoubtedly a podcast (or two!) for you.

To get you started, here are some of my favorite podcasts for lawyers.

First, there’s a podcast that we’re really exciting to be sponsoring,  legal technology expert Bob Ambrogi’s newest podcast, “LawNext.” If you’re interested in legal innovation, then don’t miss this podcast! In it Bob interviews the innovators and entrepreneurs that are “driving what’s next in law,” and provides interesting insight and predictions about the future of the legal industry.

If you’re looking for variety, then don’t miss “Legal Talk Network,” a podcast network that hosts a ton of great podcasts about an assortment of law-related issues, ranging from running a law firm and legal technology to the latest in legal news. Some of my favorites include:

  • Thinking like a lawyer (Above the Law editors Elie Mystal and Joe Patrice interview guests about trending legal issues and offer their always insightful and amusing take)
  • The Digital Edge (Sharon Nelson and Jim Calloway, legal technology and practice management experts, provide legal technology and law practice management advice and predictions)
  • Legal Toolkit (Jared Correia, lawyer and CEO of Red Cave Consulting, focuses on law practice management and tips to help you run your law firm more efficiently)

There are a number of other podcasts that also focus on law practice management issues. One example is “The Law Firm Autopilot.” In this podcast, attorney and law firm consultant Ernie Svenson provides a wealth of law practice management advice, from tips on client intake and choosing legal technology for your firm to setting up a streamlined billing process.

Another podcast with a somewhat similar focus is “The Law Entrepreneur” podcast. Hosted by Neil Tyra , it covers the business end of law. Neil interviews practicing lawyers and experts who provide lots of great advice on running a successful law firm.

If you love law and technology issues, then a great podcast to listen to is “This Week in Law,” which also happens to be one of the longest-running legal podcasts. In it, attorney and legal technology guru Denise Howell and her podcast colleagues and guests focus on the intersection of law and technology and cover topics ranging from patents to copyrights, and much more.

A legal tech podcast with a slightly different slant is “The Geek in Review”  This podcast focuses on emerging issues in legal information and knowledge management from Marlene Gebauer and Greg Lambert.

If legal marketing is a topic of interest, then here are two podcasts to consider listening to. “Legal Marketing 2.0” and the “LAWsome podcast,” both of which provide a wealth of information on the ins and outs of running and marketing your law firm.

If you’re seeking ways to reduce the stressful aspects of practicing law, then consider “The Resilient Lawyer” podcast. This podcast is hosted by attorney Jeena Cho and in each episode she shares tools and strategies designed to help you de-stress, increase your job satisfaction, and find  balance.

The Jabot” is another interesting podcast worth adding to your list. In this podcast hosted by Above The Law Senior Editor Kathryn Rubino, you’ll learn about the challenges encountered by women, people of color, LGBTQIA, and other diverse populations who work in the legal industry.

Interested in BigLaw and all that it entails? Then listen to the “Biglaw Book Of Business,”  where Above The Law founder David Lat and Robert Kinney, Founder and President of Kinney Recruiting, discuss big law happenings and cover a wide range of topics such as market analysis and notable lateral moves in large law firms.

Finally, another option is to check out the vast number of TED Talks focused on the law and legal issues. Whether it’s unlawful confessions, the ethics of programming driverless cars, or prosecutorial misconduct, you’ll be sure to find fascinating law-related TED Talks that are right up your alley.

So no matter what your interests, there’s a podcast that’s sure to interest – and educate you. What are you waiting for? Subscribe to a few today, and start listening!
