Data Migration Process

Step 1: MEET & PLAN

Start with a 30-minute kick-off call where we will learn more about your data needs and discuss our process. Following this, a Data Migration Specialist will connect with you to receive your data.

Step 2: PREPARE

Data migration begins in the following order:

  • Data extraction
  • Data formatting
  • Data texting
  • Sign-Off / finalize
Step 3: MIGRATE

Your dedicated MyCase onboarding team will migrate your data in two phases:

  • Phase 1: contacts and client information, case/matter information, companies and custom fields.
  • Phase 2: unbilled time entries, unbilled expenses, case notes, contact notes, leads, tasks, calendar events (including import of events, outstanding case balances, and client trust balances).

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will data migration take?

Depending on the complexity and state of data, we can complete data migration in as little as 3-5 business days.

Should I keep my current Law Practice Management Software until I get all my data transferred over to MyCase?

Most firms keep their current LPMS until they have exported all data to be used for the migration to MyCase. If you wish to keep it until the migration is complete, this is also an option.

Does this data migration service include migration of my documents?

It does not. However we do work with an external vendor for this who can offer special pricing for MyCase customers. The cost will depend on the number of users and documents your firm has.

Can I use the MyCase account while my data migration is happening?

Yes, please enter all new cases and contacts not already provided to your Data Specialist directly into MyCase. For cases and contacts we will be migrating, we ask that the firm wait until these have been imported & then you can begin to work on these.

Do I need to do anything in particular to ensure a successful data migration?

You will have a data migration specialist assigned to you who will walk you through what is needed to bring over your data in the most efficient way possible. They will assess your situation and implement a customized process for migration.
