Interview With Gyi Tsakalakis:
Online Marketing Tips For Lawyers

I managed to fit in a few interviews with experts while at ABA Techshow with the MyCase crew earlier this year. Many fascinating discussions were had regarding legal technology, law office productivity, law practice management, and more.

In the video and full transcript below, attorney and legal marketing consultant Gyi Tsakalakis tells us why lawyers often struggle with legal marketing and offers his top three tips for lawyers seeking to improve their online presence:

Niki Black:
Hi there. This is Niki Black. I am here at ABA Techshow and I’m here with Gyi Tsakalakis who is an attorney and legal marketing expert. Welcome.

Gyi Tsakalakis: Thank you for having me.

Niki Black: My pleasure

Gyi Tsakalakis: Great to see you

Niki Black: Oh, you too.

Gyi Tsakalakis: Thanks.

Niki Black: And what I wanted to talk about to you today is, guess what, legal marketing.

Gyi Tsakalakis: Shocker.

Niki Black: Yeah, right? So, what I want to ask you first of all was why do you think lawyers have such a tough time actually implementing a marketing plan that involves their online presence?

Gyi Tsakalakis: I think one of the biggest struggles that lawyers face is understanding what’s working. So a lot of lawyers will say, you know, I know I need to do X but they don’t really know how to measure or track the results of that.

So the good news is, is that you can track everything on the internet from a search to a call to a casefeed, it’s all trackable, but you gotta have some of the basics and the know-how to actually put those systems in place, but once you do it’s great because you can really understand how your marketing is working.

Niki Black: Okay, well that’s some good advice. And along those three lines, what are your top three tips for lawyers to help improve their online presence.

Gyi Tsakalakis: Sure, and I think we need to pull back a little bit and remember that it’s really important that you focus on great client service because that’s like the foundation of your marketing in general, online and offline.

But if you think about it, if you’re gonna be providing excellent client service, you’re gonna have things like people going online giving you reviews, more people wanting to connect with you, if you’re publishing things you might have some media attention or highlights your good work with local community organizations. And that stuff is a great way to position yourself online. That’s the kind of things people expect to see when they go to look for you online.

Niki Black: Okay, well that’s helpful too. And one last question inquiring minds would like to know. What did Gyi Tsakalakis do last night here at ABA Techshow?

Gyi Tsakalakis: I plead the fifth.
