Some say lawyers and technology don’t mix. But that’s not always true. Like me, some lawyers are unapologetic gadget geeks. If you’re one of those lawyers, then this post is for you! In it, I’ll share my reviews and recommendations of tech gadgets I’ve had the opportunity to test out over the past year or so.
OWC Thunderbolt Dock
Are you a Mac-loving attorney? If so then the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock might be just what you need. I was provided with a complimentary, pre-certified version of the dock for review purposes and found it to be a useful device for lawyers who own one of the newer MacBook Pros that include a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port.
If you need to be able to connect multiple devices and displays to your laptop, then this might be the gadget for you. It offers 13 ports through which you can connect an assortment of different devices to your MacBook, depending on your needs. It costs $289, so it’s not cheap, but is well worth the price if you need the ability to conveniently and seamlessly connect multiple devices to your laptop.
Amazon Fire HD Tablet
Next up, a reasonably-priced tablet. For the most part, I’m committed to Apple products, but when my iPad Mini became obsolete and essentially stopped working, I was in the market for a new tablet. but since I mostly use my tablet for reading and watching videos when traveling for work, I decided it might not be worth investing in a costly iPad and began to research less expensive alternatives. I ultimately settled on the Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet, and have found that it more than meets my needs. Granted it’s not as aesthetically pleasing as the iPad and has a less intuitive interface, but you nevertheless get a lot for your money.
The 32 GB tablet costs just $124.99 if you choose the ad-free option (ie. “without special offers). If you’re part of the Amazon ecosystem, you’ll find that it easily integrates with your Amazon accounts. Once you log in, you Kindle books will be available, along with your Amazon Prime benefits. This means it will be easy to watch Amazon Prime videos or shop on Amazon on your tablet, and it comes preloaded with Alexa. A few business apps to consider downloading onto it include: 1) Foxit, a free PDF reader, 2) Fast Scanner, a free scanner app, and 3) the OfficeSuite app, which allows sharing of Microsoft documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs across devices.
udoq Multi-Device Charging Station
If you’re seeking a single charging station for multiple devices, a udoq multi-device charging station may be just what you need. I received a complimentary charging station from udoq—the udoq 400 Starter Kit. It’s definitely a good option to consider, especially if you use devices from different brands, such as an iPhone and a Kindle tablet, since this udoq includes a combination of Apple connector cables and other types as well.
You can install the cables you selected when you purchased your udoq in whatever order you choose, and the height of each individual connector can be adjusted to make room for your particular device’s case or bumper. Once set up, it is streamlined and unobtrusive, with the charging cord wires neatly tucked away and out of sight. Prices start at $100, and when you order it, you can customize your udoq charging station to meet your needs based on the types of devices that you own. So if you’re in the market for an unobtrusive, attractive, and flexible charging station, the udoq might be just what you’re looking for.
