I am a Marketing Analytics & Operations Specialist.
How did you end up working for MyCase?
I was looking for a job because my previous employer was relocating to Santa Monica and I wanted to stay in Santa Barbara. One of my best friends works at AppFolio and he thought that I would be a good fit for MyCase. So, he recommended me and a few weeks later I had an interview. A week later they made me an offer, and although I had some other options, MyCase was the most appealing because of the vibe of the organization and how happy its employees are.
What does your job entail?
The main responsibility of my position is to analyze our marketing channels to help us make decisions to optimize our investment into each one. However, my job also entails a lot of other data analysis throughout the entire organization. I access data across all of the different tools that we use, analyze it, and generate material that makes it easier to interpret and understand. I also create forecasts based on the available data to help guide decisions that are likely to have an impact on the future.
What is the most difficult part of your job?
The most difficult part of my job is the forecasting aspect of it. Developing statistical models that yield relevant forecasts can be a challenging task. Nevertheless, this is also one of the most interesting aspects of my job so I welcome the challenge.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is working with an awesome group of people. I am an extrovert, and being around the MyCase team is motivating and stimulating. I enjoy being able to help everyone around me execute their jobs better.
Where are you originally from and how did you end up in Santa Barbara?
I am originally from Colombia. I moved to the US when I was 13 years old. I attended high school in San Clemente and after graduation I went to UCLA. During my first two years there, I was constantly visiting friends in Santa Barbara. I fell in love with all of its beauty and after two years at UCLA, I transferred to UCSB. After graduation I got a job at a Santa Barbara-based company. I worked in Santa Barbara until 2005, then relocated to Washington for 2 years, Oregon for 6 years, until finally returning to Santa Barbara in 2013.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to take my dog Annie (seen in the photo above) to the beach (and engage in all possible beach-related activities), hang out with friends, take advantage of the live music scene in Santa Barbara, play kickball, and travel up and down the West Coast visiting family and friends. In between, I try to read and learn as much as I can. Sleep seems to be the thing I need to add more of to my spare time!
Tell me about your family/pets, etc.?
I already mentioned Annie, my dog, she is a Sheba-Inu American Eskimo mix OR an Imo-Inu, she is 5 years old and too smart for her own good. My ex-wife and my daughter live up in Portland, Oregon. My Daughter is 11 years old, loves theatre and music and is awesome at both! So, I’m banking on her for my retirement!
Do you have a favorite saying or quote and if so, what is it and why?
“It’s all relative…”
I like it because I believe that our realities are relative to us. Therefore, nobody can ever truly completely understand us because they haven’t experienced our experience. They have not been in our shoes. This saying helps me to let go of judgment and seek understanding; it helps me to practice empathy. And ultimately, it helps me to better relate to others. Because despite the fact that I will never truly understand them, we all share in this human experience, we all suffer and we all rejoice.
