Google around and you’ll find a variety of “best legal movies” lists out there, but what about all the MyCase Rockstars (some of you may know that we like to refer to ourselves as Rockstars here at MyCase)? After all, we all work for the best legal practice management software company. What law-abiding movies move the MyCase teams? Well, we were wondering the same thing and sent out a little survey. So with that, we give you the “MyCase Rockstars’ Top 5 Legal Movies”!
5. A Time To Kill
Author John Grisham has had a handful of his legal-centric novels adapted into films (“The Firm”, “The Client”, “The Rainmaker”, “Pelican Brief” — actually the list goes on), but only one of them made the MyCase Top 5 Legal Movies. “A Time to Kill” stars Matthew McConaughey as a “young lawyer defending a black man accused of murdering two men who raped his 10-year-old daughter, sparking a rebirth of the K.K.K.” Watching the trailer — it still holds up!
4. To Kill a Mockingbird
History has proven many things, one of them being that some required high school reading curriculum (despite what we might have first believed in the days of our youth) was definitely worthwhile. Over fifty years after it was published )and then adapted into an award-winning film), “To Kill a Mockingbird” still resonates and rightfully earns our #4 spot.
3. My Cousin Vinny
“There have been many courtroom dramas that have glorified The Great American Legal System. This is not one of them.” Despite that tagline that appears on the official movie poster, everyone here at MyCase feels “My Cousin Vinny” is actually one of the best legal films ever made. While some of us still prefer Joe Pesci as the pen-stabbing, “funny like a clown” gangster in an artful Scorsese pic, his performance as the loudmouth lawyer Vinny Gambini in this classic movie about two college kids wrongly accused of murder is still one of his most memorable performances. All the yutes, I mean youths, out there who have yet to see this hilarious courtroom comedy: add it to the queue.
2. Legally Blonde
What could be summed up as a little “Mean Girls” meets “Clueless”, “Legally Blonde” starring Reese Witherspoon as Harvard Law bound Elle Woods comes in at #2 on our list of Top 5 Legal Movies. After being unexpectedly dumped by her boyfriend, Mrs. Woods follows him to law school to win him back, and while the sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” doesn’t quite hold up, the original is a must-see movie for any legally minded woman… or man.
1. A Few Good Men
We’re happy to report that all of us at MyCase can handle the truth — and the truth is Rob Reiner’s 1992 film “A Few Good Men” earned the most votes and takes the top spot in our MyCase Rockstars’ Top 5 Legal Movies survey! Tom Cruise as Lt. Daniel Kaffee, Jack Nicholson as Col. Nathan R. Jessup. Demi Moore. Kiefer Sutherland. Even Christopher Guest (one of the guys from “This is Spinal Tap”). So yeah, if you haven’t seen it, consider this a code red.
