App check:
Stitcher [non-legal][radio]

A few times each month I highlight web or mobile apps that are useful to lawyers. Sometimes the apps are developed specifically for lawyers and other times they are non-legal apps but are nevertheless useful for lawyers.

Today’s app is Stitcher. The Stitcher radio app is a streaming content service that aggregates a vast array of audio content. It’s like Pandora for talk radio. Using this app you can listen to talk radio, podcasts, live radio, and more. Shows available include  NPR, CNN, Fox, BBC, WSJ, Adam Carolla, SModcast, Joe Rogan, Rachel Maddow, Rush Limbaugh, Fresh Air, Freakonomics, Radiolab, plus over 10,000 more shows and live stations.

The app allows you to create custom stations by “stitching” together your favorite shows. Stitcher then automatically updates your stations whenever new episodes of your selected shows are available.

Another great feature that was released via a recent update now makes it possible to download audio content for later listening–so you can listen if, for example, you’re on a plane or in the subway and don’t have a data or wifi connection. And, anytime you log into the app, it will automatically download new content in the background, as you are using the app.

This is a wonderful app–especially if you endure long commutes or travel often. It’s on demand talk radio, at its finest! What more could you ask for?

This app is free. You can download the iPhone and iPad apps here and the Android app here.
